Wake Forest Style Club Gets to Styling

Everyone has an inner stylist that comes out in the morning while getting dressed (unless your a nudist). We asked the Wake Forest Style Club to bring theirs out at night during their super stylish launch party. Then we told them they could win a $50 gift card to Wildflower if they got "editorial" on us. We gave Best of Show to a black and white look that dared to put a Kersh pug sweater over a Veronica M aztec printed dress with Minnetonka 3-fringe moccs. The Forest Folk where are you???

Bye Bye Dresses, Hello Pants (for now)

Pants weather is here and we're stocked up with so so many different styles. Tights will start to feel right in a bit but for now the idea of pulling on a dress with bear legs or hoisting on some tights is not at hand. What we're feeling is the comfort and warmth of some pants.

Community Quilting with Terry this Saturday

Print-maker and quilter, Terry Schupbach-Gordon, will be at Wildflower this Saturday, September 28th from 10am until 2pm to inspire our first ever Wildflower Community Quilt. She'll be teaching us how to quilt the crazy way so bring your skills or just your hands and help us get to work. And always remember...

A bed without a quilt is like a sky without stars.
A day patched with quilting seldom unravels.
Ask not what your fabric can do for you, but what you can do for your fabric.
May all of your ups and downs in life be with a needle and thread.
Quilting with friends will keep you in stitches.
When life gives you scraps - make a quilt.

Our Go-To Shoe

We've been on a quest to find comfortable and fashionable shoes that are made in the states. While they're hard to find our search led us to Cordani. Each of their shoes are hand-made in very small factories by local artisans using traditional shoe-making techniques. We've brought in the Wellesley peep-toe wedge because this particular style is made in Los Angeles (some of their others are from Italy, Spain and Mexico). Besides the "local" vibe, we love supporting small family-run businesses, preserving old-world traditions and looking cute all at the same time. It's worth every penny.

Nourishing Transitions

Anne's daughter Kelly in her Kelly Lane dress
Transition is in the air so sharing two updates on women who are taking charge and making changes is just what we like this time of year.  Both are named Kelly so it seemed even more appropriate. As some of you may know our beloved Anne has moved to Florida to help her daughter, Kelly, as she sets out on her own for the next phase of her life. Actually, "on her own" isn't exactly the right word. Anne, Kelly and her two children have set up a multi-generational home and are loving being close to the ocean and each other. What a concept to bring three generations together under one roof! Yet another "nourishing tradition" worth exploring.

The other Kelly is Kelly Lane. One of the very first designers we carried at Wildflower, Kelly Lane's dresses became and remain a favorite of many many Winston-Salem women. But lo and behold, and unfortunately for us, Kelly has decided to take a break from dress designing because she's had a child. Felix was born just before the launch of her Spring '13 collection, which is her last for awhile. Staying home to tend her garden and raise her infant son is Kelly's new focus. Transition and tradition are in the air and we're liking it.

Apple (Bottom) Season

Veronica M pants are the perfect way to go from summer to fall, especially if you've been working hard on your gluteus maximus. I tried on a pair yesterday and thought about breaking out my Jane Fonda video from 1984 (she had some great and simple butt-lifting exercises on that tape!) I know a ton of our customers who either come by it naturally or have sculpted the perfect apple-bottom for these pants. Lucky for them two great vintage prints arrived in this style yesterday fresh off the truck:)

Everything's Coming Up Roses

We're loving the color Rose. Or it might be called Redwood. It reminds us of Anne who we're missing so much. It's the perfect color to put with a neutral. It's the perfect color to feel feminine. BTW both these beautiful things arrived yesterday along with more from Prairie Underground and Johnny Was.

Flashback 10 Years

Lluvia's first pair of Jeffrey Campbell's! Purchased 10 years ago this month when we first opened our doors. Back then we could work 12 hours in leopard skin wedges, wow! We've grown and changed so much after all these years but we're still striving for the same amount of fabulous. The shoes may be different but our hearts are still dedicate to bringing the women of Winston things we love that you can't find anywhere else in town. Get ready for Fall 2013. It's going to look and be awesome.

Street Peep Achilleas

This is Achilleas Boutis! We don't know much about him except that he's 5-years old (at least he was in this shot taken in October), he dresses himself, and with a name like Achilleas Boutis and a face like that he's destined for the runways of New York.

Street Peep Kristin

Anyone who knows Kristin is in the know about her wit, beauty, generosity and all around positive vibe. We love it when she walks in the door at Wildflower. She would truly give you the shirt off her back, even this super cute one, if you were in need. XOXO to you sweet Kristin.

Street Peep Keira

Keira is a Wildflower old-timer. She definitely doesn't look like it but she's an old soul and she's been one of our favorite customers since way back in her high school days dancing at NCSA. Now she's blowing us away with her smarts at Swarthmore College, and, even more impressive, she spends her weekends dancing the Argentine Tango. See we told you...an old soul and a cool chicka!

Loving Our Neighbors

Love and inspiration was flowing this past Saturday at downtown's Centenary United Methodist Church. Their annual fund raising fashion show brought together some amazing high school students and two locally owned clothing boutiques to build support for "Love Thy Neighbor".

It's always a whirlwind to put on a fashion show. Imagine thirteen girls descending on Wildflower to get fitted and styled. In between soccer, track and homework they all found time last week to stop by and pick out their favorite things with the help of the show's coordinator, Caroline Morgan. Because of everyone's efforts, the show turned out to be a big success. With the girls all decked out in their Wildflower finds and the boys in styles from Cahill Swain, enough was raised to support Centenary's youth lead ministry, "Love Thy Neighbor", which provides monthly outreach to Winston-Salem's downtown homeless population.

Inspired by a Youth Group visit to Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco, "Love Thy Neighbor" provides a meal, some type of activity (i.e. Bingo), and a free medical clinic once per month. This fashion show is their only source of funding so we were honored to be asked to help out. Not only was it a fun and inspiring fashion moment but even more importantly it brought together and supports all walks of Winston-Salem life.

Thank You Dries

We're off to Market tomorrow so an online peek at the Spring '13 RTW shows was a must. The big find of the evening (after scrolling through hundreds of images for inspiration) was Dries Van Noten's collection!!! It makes our heart go pitter-patter. Here are a few favorites but Google the rest of the show. It's ultra cool and actually makes the pointy-toed shoes that EVERYONE is showing look tempting.

New Year, New Sale

The new year is a great time to practice some favorite adages: "carpe diem", "live in the now", "patience is a virtue". Things slow down and we start to anticipate the Spring collections from all our amazing designers. Soon enough the store will be filled with fresh spring produce! In the mean time, we need to clean up and clear out. A good sale can keep all of us in the moment and help make room for everything new. So from now until spring is in the air and on our racks, we invite you to stop by and find yourself a little something warm and wintery for 30 to 50 % off!
